What are the 26 Christian Character Traits?
Two distinct dangers exist: (a) embracing the good news of the gospel while downplaying the moral law and (b) seeking a morality apart from the gospel’s power. The former involves disobedience; the latter leads to legalism.
Attentiveness
Listening and observing to learn truth or show concern and respect
Availability
Reserving time to serve God and others while keeping plans, schedules, and priorities reasonably flexible to meet unexpected needs as they arise
Caution
Showing due care in dealing with new or dangerous situations, trusting people of uncertain character or motives, and drawing conclusions from incomplete or unverified facts
Compassion
Having pity, sympathy, or concern for those who suffer combined with a strong desire to relieve their hurt
Contentment
Being satisfied with God’s provision
Courage
Possessing strength of mind or heart that allows you to face threats, pains, dangers, or other difficulties without fear overwhelming you
Decisiveness
Making timely choices that wisely consider future consequences
Deference
Volitionally yielding to another person’s opinion, judgment, need, wish, preference, or will
Diligence
Pursuing a worthwhile objective or purpose persistently and steadfastly
Discernment
Possessing a keen ability to distinguish between right and wrong, truth and error, and good and evil
Endurance
Having the capacity to withstand or accept prolonged or intense pain, hardship, misfortune, persecution, affliction, testing, discipline, or other adversity without quitting or losing heart
Fairness
Applying the same rules and standards in the same way to everyone and treating others as you would like to be treated
Faith
Believing and trusting in God and His Word, especially regarding the finished work of Christ for salvation
Forgiveness
Waiving or surrendering feelings of bitterness, anger, or vengeance for wrongs suffered
Generosity
Giving time, money, or other resources, altruistically and willingly, to people or causes without expecting something in return
Gentleness
Having a mild temperament, speaking softly, and acting tenderly
Humility
Possessing a lowliness of mind freed from vain thoughts of self-importance
Joyfulness
Experiencing a divine blessing that encourages the soul regardless of outward circumstances
Patience
Having a calm waiting or restraint when dealing with painful suffering, trying people, agonizing losses, daily irritants, or unfulfilled dreams
Purity
Knowing freedom from sexual immorality whether in attitudes, thoughts, speech, or actions
Repentance
Sorrowing for sin and turning from it to God
Respectfulness
Graciously regarding the feelings, opinions, rights, accomplishments, or authority of others
Responsibility
Conscientiously performing duties, making principled decisions, and fully accepting any negative consequences from performance or decisions
Thankfulness
Having gratitude to God for the multitude of His blessings
Truthfulness
Practicing honesty in word and deed, taking care not to deceive or mislead
Watchfulness
Being alert to and wary of spiritual dangers
